I then went about running a sudo yum update system wide and after several packages were installed I then tried running the above commands again.

The command sudo yum install kmod-r8822be just resulted in "not found". I installed/enabled elrepo as it suggests from their site which is. Long story short the kmod is working great! However, I was unable to install via the method you mentioned. Output from all of the above would be useful.
